GNSS Evolutions Ground Segment Phase B - contract 3
The G1G Ground Segment (i.e. GMS and GCS) design started almost 20 years ago driven by the standalone Galileo Safety of Life service and inherited the design of EGNOS that itself was from the 90’s. A need for stronger Security requirements came out later during the G1G GSEG detailed design phases, and are continuously evolving. In addition, as the system matures, so the need for more automation and simplified maintenance is becoming increasingly relevant. With the preparations of the next generation of Galileo Satellites now well underway, more flexibility for the introduction and changes of services is also required.
In this context, this Ground Segment Phase B0/B1 activity explores the available technologies of today to produce an initial state of the art Ground Segment design, fulfilling the following high-level objectives.
- Delivery of enhanced legacy services and new services
- Seamless transition from the legacy system
- Improved robustness
- Simplified and reduced operational costs
- Simplified and reduced maintenance costs.
- Increased security
- Inherent flexibility, scalability and expendability
The activity will complete with a Ground Segment Phase B1 SRR as per ECSS standards.
